Made by French prisoners of war.


Material and dimensions

Bone, 9 cm x 4,5 cm x 2 cm.


Description

A snuff box of rounded rectangular form with hinged cover and carved masonic symbols. In the roof of the temple the initials “T M” are carved.


Provenance

UK, private dealer. According to the seller this box belonged to the Moore family, who are directly descended from Sir Thomas Moore. Several generations of the family were masons. The last owner of the box was Thomas Tunnard-More who was a member of No. 2 Antiquity Lodge, London. Again all this according to the seller: widow of the last owner, Valerie Tunnard-More, St. Peter’s Port, Guernsey.
